Labour: changes to EV rules will have negligible' impact on UK emissions
Briefly

The British government's modifications to electric vehicle (EV) regulations, in response to US tariffs, will not significantly affect carbon emissions, according to Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander. Keir Starmer has reaffirmed the commitment to eliminate sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, while extending the sale of some hybrids and petrol vehicles until 2035. The government aims to strike a balance between nurturing the automotive industry and reducing emissions, highlighting that these careful adjustments are intended to be pragmatic without jeopardizing environmental goals.
The changes we are making have been very carefully calibrated so as not to have a big impact upon the carbon emissions savings that are baked into this policy.
It is an opportunity for the car industry to remain at the cutting edge of the transition to EVs, but it's right that we're pragmatic.
