UK basks in 21C heat before Arctic winds bring cold snap

Britain recorded its hottest day of the year at 21C, surpassing forecasts for Algiers and European holiday destinations. The warm snap was to be followed by cooler temperatures of around 9C by Sunday.
A band of rain over parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland was set to move south, bringing downpours and gusty conditions. The weekend forecast included cloudy conditions, rain in southern England and northern England, with temperatures dropping.
