Rising temperatures to bring UK warm start to spring
Briefly

On the first day of astronomical spring, temperatures in the south of the UK may rise to 18C, seven to eight degrees above average. This warm weather, particularly in West Wales and central England, is due to a southerly airflow bringing warmer air. While Thursday will be pleasant, it may not surpass the year's warm record of 19.7C set on March 9. The week starts with chilly nights, but sunny spells are expected, transitioning to a cooler Friday as rain approaches from the south.
Temperatures could reach 18C in the south of the UK on Thursday, marking the first day of astronomical spring, significantly warmer than typical for this time.
The warm weather coinciding with the spring equinox will lead to a 'definitely feeling spring-like' atmosphere, according to Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell.
Despite the warmer temperatures, Thursday is not expected to be the hottest day this year, a record held by 9 March with a peak of 19.7C in Crosby.
Following a week of frosty nights, a warm air influx from the south will bring highs in the low to mid-teens across the UK.
