OPW vehicles wrecked and facilities torched amid 500,000 damage in escalation of row over Castletown House
Briefly

Last weekend, multiple incidents occurred at Donaghcumper House, causing extensive fire damage to outbuildings and staff facilities. The Office of Public Works (OPW) confirmed that the attack included significant destruction of vehicles and CCTV equipment, resulting in estimated damages exceeding €500,000. Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran criticized the acts as unacceptable and expressed concern over staff safety. The OPW has been reinforcing security measures following previous incidents. A Garda investigation is in progress to address these escalating issues linked to access disputes at Castletown House, where staff recently resumed duties after a hiatus.
Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, TD stressed that this criminal damage to State property, which is owned and managed by the OPW, is shocking and unacceptable.
The OPW confirmed that during the May Bank Holiday weekend, a number of OPW and contractor vehicles, alongside four CCTV towers, faced significant damage, with costs projected over €500,000.
On April 10, 2025, OPW staff returned to Castletown House for work after months away, needing transport from Donaghcumper House due to ongoing access issues.
It was reported that a teleporter may have been used in the significant attack last weekend, flipping vehicles on their roofs before being dumped in the River Liffey.
