A serious incident occurred in Dungannon, Northern Ireland, around 8pm on Thursday when a man was found with grave injuries in a flat. Despite police intervention, he tragically passed away. Following this, a large-scale police operation commenced, including specialist firearms officers and a significant area being cordoned off. Local officials expressed concern and urged residents to avoid the area. The local ambulance service attended the scene, and though there were emergency responders, no patients were taken to the hospital. Community members expressed shock over the occurrence, underlining the heightened police presence in the vicinity.
Detective Chief Inspector Phillips stated, 'Shortly after 8pm, it was reported that a man was found with serious injuries at a flat in the area. Police attended, but sadly the man passed away as a result of his injuries.'
SDLP Mid Ulster councillor Malachy Quinn expressed grave concern on social media stating, 'Sad news coming out of Dungannon tonight. I would urge people to avoid the area tonight.'
Sinn Fein councillor Deirdre Varsani noted on social media, 'There is an ongoing serious incident at the flats at the entrance to Lisnahull...no access or exit is currently possible via the Newell Road entrance to Lisnahull.'
Local residents expressed their shock, saying, 'We realized something was wrong when we heard the sirens - there was a lot of emergency services on the scene very quickly.'
