An Irish national has been arrested at a construction site following an alleged serious assault on a woman in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford. The victim, known to the suspect, was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar and is currently in stable condition. Authorities have initiated a forensic examination of the scene, along with door-to-door inquiries, and are working to secure CCTV footage from the vicinity. Investigations into the incident, believed to have occurred on February 25, are ongoing, prompting concerns about the nature of the assault.
"This is an absolutely horrendous case and the injured party has suffered huge trauma," a source said.
"Gardaí are investigating an alleged serious assault that is reported to have occurred on Monday, February 25 in Edgeworthstown, Co Longford," said a garda spokesperson.
The woman was taken to Mullingar's Midland Regional Hospital after the alarm was raised and remains in a stable condition.
The suspect, an Irish national, was arrested at a construction site. It is understood that he is known to the victim.
