The Independent has revealed that Rishi Sunak's government is considering a bold plan to help Generation Rent become Generation Buy by creating 99 per cent mortgages.
Lenders typically require a 10% deposit, but if the government guarantees to underwrite some of the larger, riskier loan offered with a deposit of just 1%, it could open up home ownership to a much larger group of people.
