Days prior to a fire at Heathrow Airport that disrupted operations for over a day, concerns regarding the airport's power supply resilience were raised with airport management. Nigel Wicking, from the Heathrow Airline Operators' Committee, discussed these concerns about previous incidents with airport officials shortly before the fire. Chief Executive Thomas Woldbye later apologized to disrupted passengers, noting the situation was unprecedented. The incident forced the diversion of 120 aircraft, highlighting the critical nature of the airport's operations and the impact of infrastructure reliability on air travel safety.
Mr Wicking noted that following previous power supply issues, he had raised concerns about the resilience of Heathrow's power infrastructure with Team Heathrow directors just days before the fire.
After the fire caused major disruptions, Chief Executive Thomas Woldbye expressed 'deepest regrets' to the passengers and acknowledged the 'considerable inconvenience' caused by the unprecedented situation.
