Fears skull found in west Cork garden may be macabre souvenir taken from cemetery
Briefly

In Eyeries, west Cork, a homeowner discovered human remains while renovating a garden. The remains were found in a plastic bag during work involving a mini excavator and appear to date back 10 to 40 years. Gardaí were alerted, and forensic examinations are underway, including checks for possible additional remains. Although the skull's origin and whether it belonged to an adult or teenager are still uncertain, initial assessments indicate no indications of foul play or violent death. Authorities are pursuing investigative leads to identify the individual connected to the remains.
Investigations are now underway into the identity of the person involved - and the possible origin of the human remains.
Gardaí were immediately alerted and the scene was sealed off to allow for a full forensic examination by Garda Technical Experts.
One garda source indicated that there is absolutely nothing to indicate a violent death or foul play in relation to the discovery.
It is expected that a detailed inspection of the remainder of the garden will now be conducted to determine that no further human remains are present.
