Family speaks out after beloved grandad beaten to death at station
Briefly

Bernard Fowler, an 87-year-old man, was brutally murdered by Sekai Miles, a paranoid schizophrenic, while on his way to collect newspapers. Miles, who had recently been released from a mental health treatment order, attacked Fowler unprovoked, leading to a harrowing loss for Fowler's family. The family expressed their grief in a statement, emphasizing the loving nature of Bernard and the void his death has left. They also thanked the police involved for their efforts in achieving justice.
"This was horrific and unprovoked violence which claimed the life of a much loved and respected father and grandfather," said Det Ch Insp Sam Painter, the senior investigating officer for British Transport Police.
"No sentence can ever bring our beloved Bernard back. Bernard was a kind, loving grandfather, father and friend to everyone fortunate enough to have known him."
