HM chief inspector Charlie Taylor highlighted that brutalizing prison conditions are undermining efforts to reduce recidivism, leading to more victims of crime due to systemic failures.
Mr. Taylor reported that 11 out of 39 prisons inspected were failing on safety, creating a dangerous environment where violence, drugs, and exploitation thrived.
In a distressing revelation, only 2 out of 30 closed prisons were providing inmates with meaningful activities, resulting in individuals being deprived of dignity and proper care.
The current prison crisis has resulted in a troubling scenario where many inmates are literally warehoused in 'squalor', with pressing mental health needs going unmet.
