A big day has started for one of Ireland's leading political parties as members gather for the first in-person annual conference since 2019.Fine Gael minister Simon Coveney said more than 2,000 party members have travelled to Athlone, Co Westmeath to plot the way forward.The party's leader Leo Varadkar is set to take over as Irish premier (taoiseach) next month under the terms of the agreement that saw Fine Gael, Fianna Fail and the Greens come together to form a government after the last general election in January 2020.
