Afghan rights defender told she faces no risk' from Taliban as Home Office denies asylum
Briefly

Mina, an Afghan woman who fought for human rights and worked on government projects supporting women, has fled to the UK only to have her asylum claim rejected by the Home Office, which has deemed it safe for her to return to Afghanistan. Previously, protection claims for women like her were generally accepted due to the high risks posed by the Taliban. However, there has been a dramatic decrease in approval rates for Afghan asylum claims, and Mina now lives in constant fear of deportation while suffering severe mental distress.
"I assumed my asylum claim would be granted. I am from Afghanistan, I'm a woman, I worked with western governments," said Mina.
"Now every day I fear being sent back to my home country. Having a normal life here looks like a dream for me. I'm really suffering mentally."
"The Taliban changed the Ministry of Women's Affairs to the Ministry of Vice and Virtue - a proper, systematic elimination of women."
"Overall 2,000 Afghan asylum seekers had their claims refused, an increase from 48 in the same quarter of 2023."
