This couple gave up high-paying tech jobs to travel the world after a car crash and major burnout. Here's what they've learned on the road.
Briefly

Darien Tan and Joanna Wong, both 26, decided to leave their high-paying tech jobs after a near-death incident prompted Tan to re-evaluate life choices. They had a combined income of about $185,000 but chose to prioritize experiences over financial success. While Tan faced a clear 'breaking point' following a serious car accident, Wong battled burnout that made her reassess her career. Since September, they have traveled extensively in Indonesia, Thailand, and China, seeking a more fulfilling lifestyle and personal growth.
So after the entire retreat, we were on our way back to the airport. That was when we got into a really, really bad car accident where the van we were on rolled at least five times.
That was kind of my breaking point. I was asking myself, 'Hey, if I were to die at that point, would I have been happy with the life that I chose to lead?'
I think when you are in a job, sometimes you can get very busy with the work, and you don't have the mental space and capacity to even think about what you actually want to do.
