Max Tanaka, the son of Ani, explained, 'My mom was Portuguese, Spanish and Chinese. She learned how to make sweet bread when she was young from her mother, Juanita Montalvo. Baking sweet bread started as her hobby, and that same recipe is the base of everything we do today.' This highlights the deep ancestral roots and the personal history that shapes the bakery’s offerings.
Tanaka recalled, 'We outgrew that first spot quickly. From there, we got into Longs [drug store]. Then a buyer from Costco reached out to us and we got into all the Costcos and Sam's Club. That was a game changer for us.' This statement underscores how strategic partnerships propelled the bakery's growth significantly.
