Teach for All CEO Wendy Kopp says she's cracked the code on jet lag-and hasn't experienced it at all since adopting the trick
Briefly

Wendy Kopp, CEO of Teach For All, suggests a simple hack to combat jet lag: fasting during the flight and exercising upon arrival. This approach helps reset the body's circadian rhythms, which are disrupted by rapid travel across time zones. Jet lag is caused by the internal clock remaining aligned with the original location, resulting in disordered sleep and hunger. Traveling east tends to be more challenging than west due to the need for earlier sleep, which Kopp has personally experienced.
"The trick is: You don't eat on the plane, and when you land, you go on a run before you eat anything," Kopp said. "For many, many years, I didn't do it, and I finally just resorted to it and I've not had jet lag since."
Jet lag disorder is a physiological response to rapid travel across multiple time zones that temporarily throws off the body's circadian rhythms.
The brain coordinates these rhythms based on environmental cues, primarily light and darkness, but when you cross time zones quickly, your internal clock remains set to your original location.
Notably, traveling east is often harder on the body than traveling west, as Kopp often experienced herself, because it forces the body to sleep earlier than it's accustomed to.
