Hotel Concierges Share the 11 Items Guests Always Forget to Pack - and Why They're Important
Briefly

Chef Concierge Robert Watson, with over 50 years of experience at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, highlights the persistent trend of forgotten travel essentials among guests. He recalls specific instances, such as the need for formal attire during the Presidential Inauguration, prompting him to create "The Concierge Emporium," stocked with frequently forgotten items. Watson emphasizes the importance of a complete travel packing list, sharing insights on essentials like first aid kits and other items that can be quickly purchasing online, ensuring guests are better prepared for their stays.
"What our guests forget to pack or bring for their stay remains the same," Watson told Travel + Leisure. From forgotten toiletries and accessories to coats and ties, Watson has handled scenarios that run the gamut.
During the last Presidential Inauguration, for example, he said the hotel provided guests with 15 bow ties, 10 sets of cufflinks, three cummerbunds, one dinner jacket, and even, a Stetson hat, provided by Watson himself.
Such packing blunders have led Watson to create "The Concierge Emporium," a small storage cabinet located at the concierge desk that's stocked with guests' most frequently forgotten items, including deodorant, Tide To-Go pens, and more.
"Visitors to a new city forget how much walking they will be doing," Watson explained. "Needless to say, Band-Aids are essential items for blisters."
