Deadly Highway 101 intersection is getting a much-needed upgrade
Briefly

Caltrans aims to address high collision rates at the Highway 101 and Wellsona Road intersection by constructing an undercrossing. Following a fatal accident in August involving a semi-truck, local concerns over safety have intensified. In the past five years, there have been 16 crashes, including three fatalities. The undercrossing will allow drivers to bypass crossing the highway directly, thereby reducing the number of potentially dangerous left turns and improving overall traffic safety in the area.
The intersection is experiencing severe collisions relating to drivers not yielding the right-of-way, including broadside and left-turn merge-related collisions.
I've worked here for 13 years and seen so many accidents and multiple deaths.
This project is intended to reduce the number and severity of collisions at the intersection of US 101 and Wellsona Road.
The undercrossing will be constructed beneath US 101, south of the existing intersection, eliminating the need for motorists to make left turns across traffic.
