Matière Première Architecture has collaborated with Nu Drom to create a permanent site in Magog, Quebec, reflecting their shared goals in design and construction. The project consists of two buildings: one for artisanal production and another for work and public engagement, architecturally cohesive in material and placement. Set against a picturesque backdrop, the office building draws inspiration from vernacular architecture, aiming to harmonize with the landscape while enriching the area's cultural narrative. This initiative demonstrates a commitment to listening to both the environment and the community's history.
"Designing here meant listening first - listening to the land, to the site's history, and to our own needs as creators," says Etienne Chaussé.
The office building's pared-back silhouette, inspired by vernacular rural architecture, reflects an evolving showcase for the studio's creative practice.
Both buildings, dedicated to artisanal production and public engagement, form a unified architectural ensemble, coherent in both materiality and placement.
Rooted in the environment, this architectural project in Quebec offers an immersive experience that resonates with the region's cultural and natural heritage.
