Pepper spray, altercations force early end to school football game in Caledon: police | CBC News
"Provincial police say they are investigating a "significant disturbance" that involved pepper spray and multiple altercations in the crowd of a high school football game in Caledon, Ont., Friday. Officers in attendance at Friday night's game at Humberview Secondary School responded around 8 p.m. to reports of pepper spray being deployed amongst "a large gathering of students" in the crowd, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a news release Monday."
""As the situation escalated, additional officers were called to the scene to manage multiple incidents, including reports of weapons and further altercations in and around the school grounds," provincial police said. Paramedics were requested to treat two people for pepper spray, the OPP said. A young person was also taken to hospital with serious injuries following a "physical altercation," they said."
"A youth was detained after being found in possession of a knife, police said, but was released after officers determined the weapon was not used in any of the altercations. The game, part of Humberview Secondary School's 50th anniversary celebrations, was forced to end prematurely "due to safety concerns and the volume of attendees," the OPP said. The police investigation is ongoing and school staff are co-operating, the OPP said. Anyone who may have been a victim, has information, video footage, or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Caledon OPP or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers."
