Ontario advocates launch employment toolkit, say criminal records 'shouldn't act as a life sentence' | CBC News
Briefly

The John Howard Society of Ontario has launched the "Fair Chances Developer Toolkit" to assist people with criminal records in securing employment. Despite nearly four million Canadians having a criminal past, many employers remain hesitant to hire them. The toolkit is designed to aid job developers in promoting fair chance hiring and dispelling misconceptions about this demographic. By providing resources for guiding discussions on disclosures and addressing employer concerns, the initiative aims to create economic benefits while facilitating the reintegration of former offenders into the workforce.
Once someone's served their time, it's in everyone's best interest for them to be able to get back up on their feet.
It really does require very specific tools and resources to appropriately address the concerns that employers have.
This toolkit can be a part of that to help employers see the potential in candidates with criminal records.
A person's past crimes often aren't an indicator of their future job performance.
