Muslims in Toronto welcome start of Ramadan and season of giving | CBC News
Briefly

As Ramadan begins, Muslims globally, including in Toronto, are embracing the holy month through fasting, charity, and community gatherings. At ISNA Canada's headquarters in Mississauga, volunteers prepare thousands of free iftar meals for all, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity. This period inspires heightened charity as fasting deepens empathy for the less fortunate. Among various initiatives, the IDRF's iftar fundraiser gains significance due to the ongoing crisis in Gaza, emphasizing the need for humanitarian support during challenging times, as expressed by leaders like Nabil Ali.
"Everyone else prepares kind of for big milestones throughout their year. For us, Ramadan is our kind of Super Bowl in the time we prepare the most for," said Dalia Hashim.
"I'm going into Ramadan motivated with knowing that we have the ability to make a difference by ensuring that plates are full and cups have water in them and that's that's our goal," said Nabil Ali.
