Laid' Is Acerbic, Raunchy Fun
Briefly

Laid bubbles over with pop-culture asides, Billy Crystal's oeuvre and A.J.'s obsession with Amanda Knox. It smartly fuses humor with the ominous backdrop of Ruby's partners dying.
Ruby and A.J. have a snappy shorthand and nicknames for the suitors of yesteryear, which allows the show to explore Ruby's past relationships with both humor and insight.
Where Laid eventually falters is in the contrast between its breezy-bitchy shenanigans and the fact that 18 people in Ruby's orbit have died in a few weeks.
While the show has witty repartee and raunchy humor, lines like 'If you really want to move forward, you have to deal with the pain of your past' feel uninspired.
