Jason Alexander Told Us How Dunkin' Pulled Off Its '90s-Charged Super Bowl Commercial
"'It was pitched [to me] exactly like what you see, as if Good Will Hunting had started as a bad pilot,' Alexander says. 'It is the found pilot, and we're gonna de-age you. That was the pitch.'"
"'great fun,'"
""We were on a break," etc."
Dunkin' staged a Super Bowl ad titled Good Will Dunkin' featuring Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Jaleel White, Alfonso Ribeiro, Jasmine Guy, Ted Danson, Jason Alexander, and Tom Brady. Ben Affleck appears as Will Dunkin, a genius in a 1990s Matt Damon wig working at a Dunkin' Donuts in Boston. The spot presents itself as an unearthed bad TV pilot that riffs on Good Will Hunting and 1990s sitcom catchphrases. The campaign included teasers at the Grammys and used on-screen de-aging to sell the found-pilot conceit. The ad briefly restores the Dunkin' Donuts name to evoke the pre-2019 era, and cast members described a collegiate, fun atmosphere on set.
