I took my kids shopping for school supplies at Walmart and Target. I found way better clearance deals at the latter.
Briefly

My local Target's back-to-school section was largely empty, but I discovered great clearance deals. The few shelves still stocked were filled with half-off merchandise, including items from popular franchises like Barbie and 'The Mandalorian'. Although some items were getting scarce, I found essentials like pens and notebooks at discounted prices.
Walmart's rollbacks were evident as well, with numerous products marked down in its back-to-school section. However, the discounts primarily applied to Walmart's own brands; I didn't encounter sales on licensed character items or well-known brands like Elmer's and Ticonderoga.
Overall, even with limited inventory at both stores, Target offered a reasonable selection of essential school supplies at half off. Notably, PaperMate's mechanical pencils that originally sold for nearly $10 were available for just $5, showcasing good savings for back-to-school shoppers.
Despite the back-to-school inventory being reduced at Target, I still managed to find plenty of reliable supplies like PaperMate pencils and Elmer's glue at substantial discounts, making it a worthwhile shopping trip.
