Question 3: What to know about the ballot measure that would allow rideshare drivers to unionize
Briefly

If Question 3 passes, rideshare drivers in Massachusetts will gain the right to form unions, enabling collective bargaining for better wages and working conditions.
"Over the past two years, Massachusetts Uber and Lyft drivers have exposed the gig economy for what it is: an exploitation model centered on bilking workers, consumers and taxpayers alike," SEIU President April Verrett said. "Drivers know that the best antidote to their industry's sub-minimum wages, unfair deactivations and unsafe working conditions is the power to collectively bargain for better standards through a union."
Currently, rideshare drivers do not qualify to form unions like most other jobs in Massachusetts. Ballot Question 3 aims to change that, providing a framework for union formation.
Under the proposed measure, to form a union, drivers would need to collect signatures from at least 25% of active drivers, with state oversight during negotiations.
