"Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, has filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, alleging that the two companies colluded to suppress competition in both the smartphone and generative AI markets. The complaint, submitted Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, claims the pair engaged in an " anticompetitive scheme " that harmed Musk's AI ventures, including the social media platform X and chatbot Grok."
"OpenAI dismissed the lawsuit, with a spokesperson saying: " This latest filing is consistent with Mr. Musk's ongoing pattern of harassment. " Apple has yet to respond to the latest allegations, though it previously stated that its App Store aims to be "fair and free of bias" and features "thousands of apps" ranked using a variety of signals. Some App Store users have pushed back against Musk's claims, noting through Apple's Community Notes feature that rival chatbots such as DeepSeek and Perplexity ranked №1 even after Apple partnered with OpenAI."
xAI filed an antitrust lawsuit in the Northern District of Texas accusing Apple and OpenAI of colluding to suppress competition in smartphone and generative AI markets. The complaint alleges Apple favored OpenAI in App Store rankings and deprioritized competing applications, including xAI's Grok and so-called super apps. The filing claims Apple's integration of ChatGPT across iPhones, iPads, and Macs entrenches a monopoly that disadvantages other chatbot providers. OpenAI called the suit harassment, Apple has not yet responded to the latest filing, and some App Store users disputed the ranking claims. The case continues tensions between Musk and OpenAI since 2018.
