Nvidia plans to ship over 5 million Blackwell GPUs in 2025, which requires extensive networking from Ethernet switch vendors. Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins noted that AI infrastructure orders surpassed $800 million in the fourth quarter of 2025 and totaled $2 billion for the fiscal year, more than doubling predictions. Each GPU sold corresponds with an opportunity for switch vendors to sell additional switch ports. For large GPU clusters, the required number of switches can become substantial, along with a need for optics and cables to connect extensive networks.
For every B200 or GB200 GPU sold, Ethernet switch vendors have the opportunity to sell around three to five switch ports.
At the high end, that works out to 192 switches for up to 8,192 GPUs, but for clusters exceeding that, the switch count explodes.
According to Robbins, optics accounted for roughly a third of its $800 million AI networking revenues in the fourth quarter.
Cisco reported AI infrastructure orders from web-scale customers exceeded $800 million during Q4 and $2 billion for the entire 2025 fiscal year.
