Amazon cuts jobs in Sustainability department | TechCrunch
Briefly

Amazon is eliminating a few roles in its Communications and Sustainability departments, linked to its office return policy criticized by employees. As stated in an internal memo, SVP Drew Herdener identified these cuts as necessary due to overly specific roles and unnecessary layers within management. Despite these layoffs, Herdener maintained that the overall departmental headcount would remain unchanged once lower-level hires are made. Affected employees will receive support and assistance. This restructuring has raised questions about its timing amid political changes following Trump's inauguration.
We identified some roles that were too narrowly scoped or that introduced unnecessary layers, where we couldn't solve the challenge by flattening the structure or shifting workloads.
Reducing company headcount was not a goal of reorganizing the workforce; the overall headcount of my department will remain unchanged once Amazon rehires for some of these roles at lower levels.
