According to a new report by the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), lateral hiring for law firm associates surged by almost 25% in 2024, while partner hires experienced a modest 2% increase. Overall, lateral hiring across firms rose by nearly 14%. The growth was most pronounced in firms with over 1,000 lawyers, highlighting a recovery in the marketplace after preceding years of decline. Nikia Gray, NALP’s executive director, notes that BigLaw's resurgence may threaten smaller firms that previously gained talent during the downturn.
