Mildred Reser's journey began in 1950 with homemade potato salad, leading to the founding of Mrs. Reser's Salads. Under her son Al's leadership, the company transitioned into Reser's Fine Foods, expanding their offerings and operations significantly. Al took the company public to fund a new, larger facility and later returned it to private ownership to maintain family control. Mark Reser, Al's son, learned the business from the ground up, leading to skillful management and growth, with an emphasis on strategic financial moves and product diversification to ensure stability.
[We] actually received some loans from customers, vendors, employees [and] a lot of family members to make that move. It was a very strategic move to take it back private.
I had my own little route, and [it was a] great way to learn the whole product line.
