Instagram, Threads to no longer recommend political posts

Meta announced that it will no longer actively recommend political content on Instagram and Threads. The limited content includes features such as Explore, Reels, In-Feed Recommendations, and Suggested Users. However, users can still see political content posted by accounts they follow. Meta stated that it wants to create a positive experience for everyone and will provide controls for users who wish to see political content on their feeds. The company also mentioned that it has shifted away from ranking political content on Facebook feeds based on engagement.
"We want Instagram and Threads to be a great experience for everyone. If you decide to follow accounts that post political content, we don't want to get between you and their posts, but we also don't want to proactively recommend political content from accounts you don't follow," Mega said.
In addition to not recommending political content, Meta is also providing options for Instagram users to reduce the number of political advertisements they see on the app. Users can go to Settings, then Ad preferences, and select See Less for topics such as Social Issues, Elections, or Politics. These controls will also be implemented on Facebook in the future. Meta made these changes in response to user feedback, with many expressing a desire to see less political content.
