"What makes James Milner special? I don't know where to start, to be honest,"
"Of all the success we had at Liverpool, nothing would've happened without him. That's how it is really."
"Reaching that number of appearances is just like landing on the moon. Maybe it only happens once?"
"You could never break him. No matter how bad the situation, no matter what's thrown at him, I always felt that he would react in the right way and come back stronger, come back better."
James Milner reached 654 Premier League appearances at age 40 while starting for Brighton against Brentford, surpassing Gareth Barry's record. Milner debuted on Nov. 10, 2002 at 16 and experienced the setback of being transferred away from his boyhood club before rebuilding his career. Milner has represented six clubs—Leeds, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton—and won three Premier League titles and two FA Cups. He made 230 Premier League appearances during a successful period at Liverpool. Milner has faced or played alongside roughly 49% of all players who have appeared in the Premier League and even faced David Seaman.
