Home In The Nevada Desert Is A Masterpiece Of Concrete & Steel, Offering Scenic Views & Sustainable Design - Yanko Design
Briefly

Faulkner Architects has unveiled 'Red Rock', a remarkable concrete residence in Summerlin, Nevada, designed to withstand the area's harsh climate. Spanning 11,780 square feet, the house's design integrates traditional construction techniques to endure strong winds and extreme temperatures. Featuring a central courtyard and engaging water basin, the structure emphasizes a dialogue between its surroundings and the local landscape, incorporating weathering steel and earth-like forms. Half of the residence is below ground, optimizing natural ventilation, while zoning laws influenced the design's elevation and shared spaces.
The earthlike ground form fitted with a layer of weathered steel is a nod to the geology of Las Vegas Valley and Red Rock Canyon beyond.
The house artfully balances both urban and natural elements, reflecting a contextual conversation between the desert landscape and the city's built environment.
