Scientists at City University of Hong Kong have developed a lickable VR device that allows users to experience adjustable taste sensations, enhancing virtual immersion.
The device, shaped like a lollipop, can produce up to nine flavors using food-grade chemicals that mix with saliva on the tongue, creating taste in virtual environments.
Dr. Yiming Liu, lead author, notes that taste plays a significant role in human experience: 'Taste significantly influences both the physiological and psychological aspects of human experience.'
Taste-generating technology is challenging to develop in VR, with Dr. Liu stating that the research is still in its infancy compared to other sensory technologies.
