The recent flash floods in Spain have devastated entire villages, leaving streets submerged and tragically resulting in a death toll of at least 95 people.
Ricardo Gabaldon, the mayor of Utiel, voiced the despair of the community, recalling the harrowing moments: "We were trapped like rats. Cars and trash containers were flowing down the streets."
The floods have prompted a national mourning period as the scale of loss becomes clear, with PM Pedro Sanchez expressing solidarity with those affected: "For those who are looking for their loved ones, all of Spain feels your pain."
Survivors shared gripping accounts of their escape; baker Javier Berenguer described the floods, saying, "I had to get out of a window because the water was already coming up to my shoulders."
