Asteroid 2020 XR, measuring 1,200 feet in diameter and moving at 27,500 mph, will make its closest approach to Earth on December 4, passing at 1.37 million miles.
Designated as a 'near Earth object,' asteroid 2020 XR is large enough to wipe out a small city, but NASA assures that this one poses no threat.
The Virtual Telescope Project will provide a free livestream of asteroid 2020 XR starting at 1:30 p.m. ET on December 3, ahead of its closest approach.
Following its December 4 approach, asteroid 2020 XR is expected to return in four years, with its next significant close pass not occurring until 2196.
