Elias Georgopoulos, a former parking enforcement worker for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), has brought forth serious allegations of racial and disability discrimination, sexual harassment, and workplace retaliation against the agency. Testifying in court, Georgopoulos claims current director Shawn McCormick encouraged a culture of targeting minority neighborhoods for parking citations. Georgopoulos also described personal harassment involving derogatory remarks about his ethnicity, language, and disability. The SFMTA has denied these allegations, claiming Georgopoulos was not subjected to harassment.
"Those people don't know how to fight City Hall," McCormick allegedly told Georgopoulos, speaking of the minority-heavy neighborhoods he is accused of targeting.
When Georgopoulos spoke Spanish with another colleague, his attorneys said, he was shouted at by a coworker to speak English.
