Three decades later, Ian M. Shepard was identified as the man found dead in a railroad boxcar. Efforts to locate his family continue without success.
Despite extensive efforts from the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office, no relatives of Ian M. Shepard have been located since his identification.
Shepard, found unclothed inside a boxcar, was 40 at the time and had distinct features including a 1.5-inch mustache and 4-inch beard.
Items discovered near Ian M. Shepard included colored pants, a sock, a duffel bag, and tennis shoes, hinting at his transient lifestyle.
