A recent study revealed that some automatic braking systems, particularly on Honda and Mazda models, fail to recognize pedestrians wearing reflective strips, raising safety concerns.
The tests revealed alarming results: both the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 consistently hit a pedestrian dummy wearing reflective strips, regardless of lighting conditions.
David Kidd, a senior research scientist at IIHS, stated that "it certainly was surprising that those two vehicles didn't respond at all" to the reflective gear worn by the pedestrian dummies.
Only the Subaru Forester showed some level of caution, slowing down significantly, though it still hit the dummy dressed in reflective strips, which is troubling.
