Over 1,500 hotel workers in San Francisco have begun a strike over unresolved contract negotiations, aiming for better pay and working conditions despite hotels' significant profits.
The union representing the workers, Unite Here Local 2, argues that employees are overwhelmed by staffing cuts, receiving irregular hours and maintaining multiple jobs to survive.
Gwen Mills, International President of Unite Here, emphasized that despite the industry's rising profits, hotel workers deserve wages, affordable healthcare, and reasonable workloads post-pandemic.
The three unionized hotels assert their intention to continue business as usual during the strike, remaining hopeful that negotiations will lead to a positive outcome.
