Two-Item Tuesday: Advocates Celebrate More SMART Bike Path - Streetsblog San Francisco
Briefly

The newly opened segment of the SMART bike path between the Civic Center and McInnis Park marks a significant advancement for cyclists in Marin County. Following years of delays, advocacy efforts led by groups like the Marin County Bicycle Coalition, and changes in leadership at SMART, the pathway's completion is finally gaining momentum. However, challenges remain, particularly concerning the poor condition of nearby access routes. Local advocates continue to press for repairs to McInnis Parkway to improve access for cyclists, underscoring the persistent need for collaboration between agencies and local government to ensure safe and accessible routes.

We have been urging the City of San Rafael to bring it up to working condition for years, but it has not happened yet.
Happily, much has changed since then. SMART is under new leadership and is getting the pathway back on track. SMART's General Manager, Eddie Cumins, has been at the helm for over three years. The agency is now moving full steam ahead on delivering the long-promised pathway.
