More than 2,100 GSA employees have accepted deferred resignations
Briefly

Over 2,100 employees at the General Services Administration (GSA) have accepted a deferred resignation offer from the Trump administration, representing about 16% of the agency's 13,000 workforce. The 'Fork in the Road' program, launched soon after the inauguration, faced legal challenges while being reopened across several agencies. GSA has also laid off around 1,000 employees, with the remote tech consultancy 18F completely shutdown. As employees return to the office, space limitations have led to suggestions for alternative seating arrangements, further impacting employee morale and retention.
The return to office mandate was another effective lever to get people to quit since they limited the offices people could return to a small number of key cities, whereas much of GSA was purposefully hired remote.
The second round of the fork buyout was so successful because they've driven morale into the dirt over the past four months.
