EXCLUSIVE: Survivor of deadly SF crash searching for answers after boyfriend, dog killed
Briefly

A deadly crash in San Francisco left one man, Mischa Romanenko, and his dog dead, while his partner Linh Luu is hospitalized with severe injuries. They were on their way to pick up family when a high-speed Tesla crash resulted in multiple cars being struck. Luu, struggling with grief, expressed her disbelief and guilt, longing for her partner who she described as purposeful in life. The driver responsible, Jia Lin Zheng, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter, with police noting no signs of alcohol at the time.
"I don't understand why it happened the way it did, and I don't know how I'm alive," Luu said during a Zoom interview. "Honestly, I want to trade places with him. He had such a purpose in this world."
The accident occurred just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of 6th and Harrison streets, where police say a black Tesla plowed into seven vehicles, including a Waymo autonomous car. The Tesla was reportedly traveling at 98 miles per hour.
I remember looking over to him and saying, 'I love you,' and him saying, 'I love you too,' back to me." Luu recalled. "It was just one moment after that I was being wheeled into different rooms.
Zheng did not smell like alcohol shortly after the arrest and a blood alcohol screening hours later did not indicate alcohol in his system."
