The city of Antioch is in search of a new police chief who can rebuild trust and foster community policing in light of previous tensions. Families affected by police actions, like the family of Angelo Quinto, are advocating for a leader with integrity, empathy, and a genuine understanding of the city's history. During community meetings aimed at recruitment, residents expressed the importance of selecting a leader who embraces diversity and prioritizes accountability in policing practices. The interim chief, Capt. Joe Vigil, is currently filling the role while discussions continue to ensure the next chief aligns with community needs.
I am saying this as my family was impacted and the previous police chief... said we wanted to make money out of my son's death, and that hurts.
I also want to see a leader who is very comfortable in working with people of all colors, cultures, and is aware of the different groups of people.
