Voicemail captures fatal stabbing, CA officials say. 'Narrating her own murder'
Briefly

Craig James Charron was convicted of first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend Laura Sardinha, following a tumultuous relationship marked by allegations of abuse. Sardinha had sought a restraining order against Charron after moving in together in July 2020, and in September 2020, she was heard on a phone call pleading for help as she was attacked. Prosecutors described the horrific nature of the stabbing, which left Sardinha mortally wounded. Charron's trial concluded with a guilty verdict on April 29, 2023, and he now faces life in prison during sentencing scheduled for July 25.
"If you listen to it carefully, you hear a woman narrating her own murder," Orange County Deputy District Attorney Janine Madera told jurors during her closing argument at Charron's trial.
Charron, an Air Force veteran, stabbed Sardinha in the chest, nearly cut off her nose and "stabbed her head so viciously that it bent the knife," KTLA reported, citing prosecutors.
