A Tottenville woman, Phyllis Cicalo, faces financial hardships after being billed $32,000 by SunPower, which recently filed for bankruptcy. Cicalo's solar energy system broke down two years ago, and while SunPower, now operating as SunStrong, has taken over, they deny her assistance despite numerous calls for help. With her energy system inoperable, she had to return to Con Edison. Cicalo also claims this situation has negatively impacted her credit and emotional well-being, as she struggles to pay her bills and avoid further financial ruin.
When you get bills and you can't pay them, and now you get boxed in, and you're selling all your assets to pay bills, it's terrible, Cicalo said. I'm in tears three-quarters of the time.
