Walking symbolizes perseverance and pride, and for me, Philadelphia represents the legendary musical place where much of my significant walking has happened.
Lisa Fischer stands out vocally, moving from unnerving falsettos to resonant whispers, her versatility showcased in performances of tracks like Blues in the Night.
While there may be a vocal or two too many for some jazzers, they don’t overwhelm the improv and arranging class of this intuitively inventive band.
