Police have arrested five individuals, including a 13-year-old, connected to the fatal stabbing of David Gutierrez, 15, on Valentine's Day. The victim, who had no gang ties, was confronted by a group dressed in gang colors while on a date. Despite evading initial attack, Gutierrez was ultimately stabbed multiple times and later died in the hospital. Law enforcement utilized various tools, including surveillance and gang intelligence, to identify and apprehend the suspects. Community leaders lamented the tragic loss of a young life taken too soon due to senseless violence.
David fought for his life but didn't make it to surgery. His family shared that he was an active member of his church and involved in boxing.
A day meant to celebrate love, Valentine's Day, quickly turned to hate when a senseless act of violence ended his life, said San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
