Friko, a Chicago-based alt-rock band, recently celebrated the anniversary of their debut album, "Where We've Been, Where We Go from Here," which took three years to create. What began as a solo project by Niko Kapetan evolved into a duo with drummer Bailey Minzenberger, who plays various instruments. The album features a blend of live recordings and orchestrated tracks, aiming to capture the essence of a live performance while exploring diverse sounds. This evolution reflects the band's deep-rooted connection and their journey in the music industry.
It was a very long, like three-year, process of writing and recording the record... We wanted every song to feel like there's a live band in the room.
When my high school band broke up, there was a six-month period when I was just doing solo stuff, so I put it under that name.
Some songs are lyrics first; that song was very much music first. We also wanted the album to have fully orchestrated tracks.
Bailey plays guitar on the record, piano, drums, singing. We both play a little bit of everything.
